CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Honoring seven seniors in their final regular season home games, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer program will host Lamar at 7 p.m. Friday and McNeese at 1 p.m. Sunday at Dugan Stadium.
Â
Prior to Sunday's match, A&M-Corpus Christi will have a special pregame Senior Day ceremony for
Molly Arens,
Reese Cross,
Emma Herrera,
Emily Levy,
Maggie Murray,
Jayden Rea and
Kennedy Stelling. The Islanders will also hold their pink day Friday against Lamar.
Â
The Islanders sit in fourth in the SLC standings with a 4-3-1 conference record. They'll host the first and third-place teams as Lamar enters play at 7-0-1, while McNeese begins the weekend at 4-1-2.
"It's going to be an exciting weekend with the No. 1 and No. 3 team coming into town coinciding with the pink game and Senior Day. I know my team will step up and take it to both these teams," said head coach
Craig Shaw.
Â
A&M-Corpus Christi split a pair of road games last weekend after defeating Texas A&M-Commerce 2-1 but falling to Northwestern State 2-0. The Islanders garnered goals from Arens and graduate
Olivia Hughes to top the Lions.
Â
Sophomore
Mai-Lisa Atis leads the team with four goals. She's one of 11 Islanders to score this year including Murray, Hughes, and juniors
Megan Guy and
Rachel Loetzer who've all netted three apiece. Guy has also dished out four assists and carries team-highs of 10 points, 26 shots and 17 shots on goal.
Â
In back, junior
Emma Crump and Hughes have logged team-highs of 1,245 and 953 minutes respectively. Crump and Arens have started in a team-high 14 games each.
Â
A victory this weekend would secure a winning season for A&M-Corpus Christi in conference. It would be the second under Shaw after a 6-4-1 mark in 2019 was the first in program history.
