JONESBORO, Ark. – Turning in its lowest round of the tournament, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi golf team shot a 293 on Tuesday to move up three spots and conclude the Lady Red Wolves Classic at Sage Meadows Country Club.
The 293 in the third round tied the ninth all-time lowest round in the program. It is the second lowest 18-hole score of the season after the Islanders submitted a 285 in the second round of the MSU Stewart Payne Meet.
It helped the Islanders move up three spots to finish 13
th after they carded a 316 in round one and a 306 in round two for the 915 total.
"The team bounced back and had the round we were looking for," said head coach
Pat Stephens. "I am proud of the team and their effort today. Lucia had a great round today and had help from Lucia, Elsa, and Sam. With only our one-day match with UTRGV on the 27th remaining for the fall season, we will be getting in a solid week and a half of practice in before the off season starts."
Senior Lucie Chabonnier shot under par in round three to finish with a 74-77-70 – 221 and 15
th-place finish to lead the team. It is the third tournament this semester that Charbonnier led the team.
Sophomore
Lucia Ramirez, sophomore
Elsa Tornvall, and freshman
Samantha Gibbs also carded their best round in the final 18-holes. Ramirez finished with an 80-75-73 – 228, Tornvall submitted an 81-81-74 – 236, and Gibbs submitted an 81-85-76 – 242.
Freshman
Carla Puente Fernandez completed her collegiate team debut with an 81-73-80 – 234 to finish third on the team.
It marked the final multi-round tournament of 2023, as the Islanders will close out the fall slate with match play at UTRGV on Oct. 27 at McAllen Country Club.
