JONESBORO, Ark. – Gearing up for its final multi-day tournament of the fall schedule, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi golf team will head north for the Lady Red Wolves Classic on Monday and Tuesday at Sage Meadows Country Club.
Play will begin at 8:15 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday will a shotgun start. The teams will play two rounds on day one before playing the final 18 holes on the second day.
The Islanders will send a lineup of sophomore
Lucia Ramirez, senior
Lucie Charbonnier, sophomore
Elsa Tornvall, freshman
Samantha Gibbs, and freshman
Carla Puente Fernandez. It will be Puente Fernandez's debut tournament playing on the team after playing as an individual at the SHSU Bearkat Invitational.
It will be the second year in a row that Charbonnier, Ramirez, and Tornvall compete at the Arkansas State tournament after also playing in it last fall.
A&M-Corpus Christi will be part of the 16-team field, going up against Arkansas State, Austin Peay, Central Arkansas, Eastern Kentucky, Little Rock, Memphis, Missouri State, Morehead State, Murray State, North Alabama, Samford, Texas A&M-Commerce, Troy, ULM, and UT Arlington.
"The team is looking to redeem themselves this coming week at Arkansas State," said head coach
Pat Stephens. "Our last two tournaments were not our best, but the team is determined to finish strong this fall. We will have Carla in the lineup along with Lucia, Lucie, Elsa, and Sam. I am anxious to see her play as part of the team this week."
The Islanders are coming off a 15
th-place finish at a difficult New Mexico State tournament. Ramirez and Tornvall each turned in their lowest 54-hole total of the year at that tournament, with Ramirez finishing with a team-best 37
th individual ranking.
Charbonnier has two top-10 finishes this season, including fourth place in the fall opener. In that tournament, she was one of three Islanders to card a 69 in round two along with Gibbs and Ramirez. It was the first time in program history that multiple players scored in the 60's in the same round.
Last year at the Arkansas State tournament, the Islanders finished tied for 12
th after Charbonnier matched the school record for lowest 54-hole total with a 213 (-4).
