COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Winning the South Texas Showdown in both men's and women's cross country, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi concluded the regular season Friday morning at the Arturo Barrios Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M at the Dale Watts Course.

The South Texas Showdown, presented by Rally Credit Union, is a 12-sport competition between A&M-Corpus Christi and UTRGV.

The men finished in 23rd out of 39 with 578 points to beat UTRGV which placed 33rd with 910 points. The women ended in 30th out of 42 with 887 points to top the Vaqueros who finished in 40th with 1,147 points.

Junior
Kelvin Kimaiyo led the Islanders with an 8K time of 23:42.9, which was good for 16th-place. Close behind was freshman
Mathayo Kiptoo Bundotich who turned in a 23rd-place time of 23:52.4. Senior
Enock Kimutai registered a 24:32.8 to place 86th.

The women were guided by senior
Sharon Kiprop who clocked in a 21:37.2 in the 6K to place 149th. Kiprop was followed by the pack of freshman
Kate Brockman (22:18.3), sophomore
Deandra Ibarra (22:21.9), freshman
Faith Ramos (22:25.4) and junior
Chloe Garcia Grafing (22:28.5).

"I'm really proud of our women today. They had their best race of the season and competed with great unity," said head coach
Bryan Jackson. "On the men's side, Kelvin and Mathayo raced very well. Now back to work to prepare for the Southland Championships."

The 2023 SLC Championships are slated for Friday, Oct. 27 on the campus of UIW.
