Siroki's Bronze Leads Islanders at Texas Tech Open & Multis

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Trpimir Siroki, a senior, earned a bronze medal in the long jump to begin showcasing the Islanders' track and field program at the Texas Tech Open & Multis at the Sports Performance Center.

"Trpimir has a series of nice jumps today," said head coach Brent Ericksen. "Going 7.45m is a really nice early-season jump for him."

Siroki's mark of 7.45m is an improvement upon his season best, just 0.01 cm short of reaching his program record set last year. Newcomer Sean Majors, a graduate student, competed in the men's long jump as well, leaping 6.87m to finish 16th on the day.

He qualified for the first round of the men's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.09s to lead the team's trio that progressed on. Graduate student Ke'Tavion Humber had the 10th-best mark of 8.17s in the event, later running 8.18s in the next round to earn 18th. Senior Daniel Armstrong ran a day-best time of 8.25s in the qualifying round and finished 22nd after running his second race.

Seven Islanders competed in the women's 400m dash, led by sophomore Tranasia Jones with a 57.38s time. Three men competed in the event with junior John Moreno earning the best time at 51.39s.

Ericksen remarked, "Tomorrow we have the 800m, mile, and 3Ks along with the high jump and 200m, so another busy day here at Texas Tech."

Day two of the meet continues at 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning and will be streamed on ESPN+ at this link.
