Golf Heads to SHSU for Remax Prime Properties Bearkat Invitational

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Looking to build off a strong final round in its first tournament of the season, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's golf program will partake in the Remax Prime Properties Bearkat Invitational with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start at the Bearkat Course.
 
The Islanders will be represented by senior Maria Beltran, junior Lucie Charbonnier, junior Reese Drezins, sophomore Reagan Gray and freshman Lucia Ramirez. Senior Lucy Martinez and freshman Elsa Tornvall will compete as individuals.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi will be going up against Sam Houston, Houston Christian, UL-Monroe, UTEP, UTRGV, UT Arlington, Tarleton State, Oklahoma City, Lamar, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas Southern.
 
Rounds one and two will be played Monday, and the third round on Tuesday.
 
 "We have had a very good week of practice and are anxious to get in competition this week. We are taking entire squad, which will give us a good look at the whole team 'under the gun' of competition. The field at SHSU is very competitive and a strong finish would continue to build the confidence of the team," said head coach Pat Stephens.
 
In their first tournament of the season, the Islanders placed sixth out of 15 at the Missouri State Payne Stewart Meet. A&M-Corpus Christi improved as it went along after shooting a 306 in round one, 302 in round two and 291 in round three.
 
Beltran and Ramirez led the way with 233 (+7) scores to finish in a tie for 13th. Beltran turned in the best individual round with a -1 on the final day.
 
Last year at this tournament, the Islanders finished sixth out of 14 teams with an 891 (+39) score. Gray carded a 218 (+5) to place seventh on the leaderboard.
