CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's soccer team hosts Nicholls at the Dr. Jack Dugan Soccer and Track Stadium Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. looking for its third consecutive victory.
Â
"I haven't coached a team here in a long time that has had the focus of going from one game to the next and making sure whether it's a win or loss it doesn't affect the next game," said head coach
Craig Shaw, praising his current team. "We want to make sure we play a full 90 minutes against teams."
Â
The Islanders defeated HBU 2-1 at home last Friday to mark the first time the team has outright beat the Huskies. Then, after only one day of rest, the team traveled to UIW and defeated the Cardinals 4-1 on their home turf to improve their record to 5-3.
Â
Sophomore
Morgan Westbury is tied for the second-most penalty kicks in Division I women's soccer with two on the season. Behind her is freshman
Mai-Lisa Atis, earning a penalty kick against UIW during Sunday's game.
Â
Junior
Molly Arens leads the conference in total assists on the season at seven, sitting at fourth in the nation. With one more assist, she will break the school's all-time career assists record.
A&M-Corpus Christi's defense has been performing well thus far this season, only allowing 11 goals up to this point. The record for the least amount of goals has been set at 22 twice and will be the goal for the defensive unit. They've only allowed one goal in each of the past three games.
"The defense has been working really hard to stay connected as a unit," said junior defender
Emma Herrera. "Each individual player works on and off the field to give the best they can during every game."
Â
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with live stats available as well.
