CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's soccer team will kick off the weekend against HBU at the Dr. Jack Dugan Soccer and Track Stadium Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. against HBU in the second conference game of the season. Following the performance, the team will travel to San Antonio to play UIW at the Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
"HBU will be great," said head coach
Craig Shaw. "I've watched a few of their games and they've been very unlucky with a hard schedule. We can't take them for granted just because of what their record says."
Last season, A&M-Corpus Christi and HBU battled their way to a draw before the Huskies later forfeited the match due to an ineligible player being on the field. It marked the first time in program history the Islanders were able to defeat HBU with the contest being held at home.
Shaw continued on, saying, "UIW is a very physical team who made the SLC Tournament final last season so we are going to have to be ready to play when we arrive in San Antonio."
All time, the Islanders hold three victories over the Cardinals and have battled them valiantly over the course of the past couple of seasons, noted by only allowing one goal the last time the two teams played. UIW currently touts a 1-4 record, playing a tough schedule that started off against the University of Texas. They faced a common opponent as the Islanders in Texas State, falling 3-0 in the match.
The Islanders currently hold on to an even 3-3 record, most recently playing games against UTRGV at home and Lamar on the road. The team held the Cardinals, the only undefeated team in the Southland, to only one goal in the performance. The two teams will face each other once more later this season.
Junior
Molly Arens continues to lead the conference in total assists on the season at five to sit 10th in all of Division I Women's Soccer. She is one of five players on the roster to start all six games for A&M-Corpus Christi.
Both games will be streamed on ESPN+ and have accompanying live stats to follow.
