CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's cross country programs saw junior
Dennis Kipngeno and grad student
Faith Bett named as the Southland Conference's Runners of the Week Tuesday afternoon.
"It's a nice way to start the season with two athletes of the week," said head coach
Brent Ericksen. "I was really happy with Dennis and how he was able to come back and close well. I think Fiath is in better shape this year so it will be fin to see her as she goes."
Kipngeno led the men by coming in second at the Rice Twilight Meet on Friday evening with a time of 19:59.61, only behind first by just over two seconds. A native of Nakuru, Kenya, he was the first student-athlete to compete in the NCAA Championships in 2021.
Â
Bett finished sixth out of 81 competitors for the women with a mark of 14:48.00 in the 4K race. She led the effort in the women's fifth-place finish on the day as the highest scorer with a fellow teammate earning ninth for the team. She was a part 2021 SLC Championship team where she scored sixth for the Islanders.
Â
A&M-Corpus Christi will next compete at the UIW Invitational after taking a few weeks off of competition before going to the meet on October 1.
