CORAL SPRINGS, Florida - The 2021-22 Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team was announced and four members from the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi golf program were recognized on it for their success in the classroom.
The minimum cumulative grade point average for consideration is a 3.50.
1,485 total collegiate golfers were recognized on the team, including sophomore
Lucie Charbonnier, junior
Lucy Martinez and freshmen
Reagan Gray and
Anastacia Johnson. This marked the second year in a row that Charbonnier and Martinez have earned this honor.
Charbonnier was tabbed to both the All-Conference and All-Academic Second Team. She ended the year with a 3.68 cumulative GPA in her business degree and a team-best 75.45 average score. She was the team's top finisher at the HBU Husky Invitational (5th), Babs Steffens Invitational (10th), the Southland Conference Championship (7th) and at the PGA Works Collegiate Championship where she notched first career win.
Martinez, a two-time All-Academic Second Team honoree, has maintained a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA as an Islander. The accounting major from Aguascalientes, Mexico turned in a 77.27 score average and had her highest finish of the season at the PGA Works Collegiate Championship after placing seventh, helping the Islanders to a first-place finish.
Gray holds a 3.8 GPA in her marketing curriculum and competed in 10 tournaments during her freshman year. She averaged a 76.90 score and placed in the top-10 twice, including her season-high of a fifth-place standing at the PGA Works Collegiate Championship.Â
Johnson records a 3.8 cumulative GPA in her biology degree. She averaged the team's second best score of a 76.46. During her freshman campaign, Johnson notched her first win at the Islander Classic with a 215 score, earning her the title of Golfer of the Month in February. She finished in the top-10 in two other tournaments, including at the UTRGV Invitational where the Islanders tied for first.
All four helped the Islanders turn in a program low 54-hole total of a 886 at the Islander Classic where the team placed third.Â
"I am very proud of these young ladies," said head coach
Pat Stephens. "They have shown excellence on both the golf course and in the classroom. They are what all student-athletes strive for. Congratulations to them!"
