Eugene, Ore. - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi track and field is set for the NCAA Championships as senior
Trpimir Siroki will begin competition on Thursday, June 8 at Hayward Field in the decathlon.
"Siroki has had an incredible year for us and now is the time for him to put it all together," said head coach
Brent Ericksen. "Ten events over two days is a grind and it's the person who attacks each event with everything they have and refocuses on the next one that is going to have the most success."
Siroki will be a part of a two-day competition with five events being held on both Wednesday and Thursday, spread out throughout the day. His current mark of 7,838 set at the Texas Relays, seeds him 15th in the nation headed into the event. On Wednesday, he will compete in the 100m dash, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400m dash. Thursday, he will follow up the performance with the 110m hurdles, discuss, pole vault, javelin and 1500m run.
"It will be fun and I'm proud and excited to represent the Islanders on the biggest collegiate stage," said Siroki. "This is my first season competing for the Islanders and the best year in my career. It will be a two-day battle between the best guys in the country and we will see who the best competitor is."
The decathlon mark Siroki set at the Texas Relays broke the Croatian National Record while shattering the Islanders' school mark by nearly 2,000 points. While competing, we was victorious in the long jump, leaping 7.59m, and the high jump with a mark of 2.11m.
This marks the second consecutive year in which A&M-Corpus Christi will see an Islander compete for a national title as junior
Leonardo Ledgister finished sixth in the 400m hurdles last year.
Siroki will begin competition at 2:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday before continuing on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. CT.
