A&M-Corpus Christi Tallies Highest APR Average in Southland to Earn Academic Performance Award

FRISCO, Texas – For the first time in school history, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was honored with the 2021-22 Southland Conference Academic Performance Award, the league announced Thursday.

Since 2013, the award has been presented annually to the member institution compiling the highest APR average based on a seven-point scale and percentage calculation. The Islanders captured 74 percent of the maximum accumulated points the institution could receive, based on the number of conference sports in which they participate.

"This award is the culmination of years of dedication and diligent work on the part of many folks in the Islander community," said A&M-Corpus Christi Director of Athletics Jon Palumbo. "Our student-athletes have worked hard in the classroom in pursuit of academic excellence, our coaches have prioritized academic achievement and our athletics staff and university community have committed to supporting our student-athletes throughout their academic journey. We are all very proud of our student-athletes and appreciative of the Southland Conference for this recognition."

For the 2020-21 academic year, A&M-Corpus Christi averaged a 982 score for all 12 programs with six teams posting perfect 1,000 APR scores: men's cross country, men's tennis, men's track & field, women's soccer and women's tennis.

For the four-year period of 2017-18 to 2020-21, the Islanders averaged a 983 score with four programs recording perfect figures: men's tennis, women's cross country, women's soccer and women's tennis.

A&M-Corpus Christi earned first-place points in seven of its 12 sports, including baseball, men's tennis, men's track and field, women's cross country, women's soccer, women's tennis and volleyball.
