June 15, 2022

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball program had three players honored on the 2022 Southland Conference All-Academic teams, announced by the league on Wednesday.

Pal Egan, Haley Morse and Gabriella Torres all found their names on one of the teams. Egan was an automatic qualifier to the all-academic first team while More and Torres both earned a spot on the second team.

The Southland Player of the Year Egan was tabbed to the first team after earning a 3.42 cumulative GPA in her Marketing degree. The Bakersfield, California native was also named the Hitter of the Year and made All-Conference First-Team. Egan finished her second year on the Island breaking the program's single-season records for batting average (.426), on-base percentage (.555), slugging percentage (.794), runs scored (48), total bases (123) and stolen bases (27).

Egan most recently distinguished as an NFCA All-Region Third Team selection in the Central Region. She was one of 381 student-athletes from 152 programs to have received 2022 NFCA Division I All-Region accolades.

Morse, from Mansfield, Texas, was named to the All-Conference Second-Team this year at third base. She finished the year with a 3.51 cumulative GPA in her Finance curriculum. Morse hit for a .235 average through 49 appearances, tallying 28 hits, 13 runs and 16 RBIs. She notched six multi-hit games including when she went 3-for-3 against McNeese. Morse finished the year with a .994 fielding percentage with only one error all season.

Torres, a native of San Antonio, Texas, finished her third season behind the plate for the Islanders and ended the year nationally ranked 14th for caught stealing by (15). She maintained a 3.65 GPA in her Biomedical Sciences major. Torres was top-10 in the conference and second the team in putouts with 229 including a game-high of 12 putouts against UTSA. She totaled 35 hits, 27 runs, 26 RBIs, nine doubles, two triples and four home runs.

"This is a big deal for the three of them," said head coach Kathleen Rodriguez. "Being an educator to my core, academic awards are some of my favorites earned by out student-athletes.

"The demands our student-athletes face on a daily basis are high, along with our expectation for excellence in the classroom," Rodriguez said. "Their combined efforts on the field as well as in the classroom make us extremely proud. These three have set the bar high for all out future Islander softball athletes."
