Incoming Signee Primrose Aholehei Named 2022 JUCO Pitcher of the Year

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Looking to strengthen its 2023 roster, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball program signed Primrose Aholehei, the 2022 JUCO Pitcher of the Year.

Aholehei, a first-team All-American, will join the Islanders after having an impressive year in the circle at Bossier Parish Community College. The Hawaii native led NJCAA DI with 28 victories (28-3) and 344 strikeouts, while posting the fifth lowest ERA at 1.14 through 191.0 innings

She recorded 14 double-digit strikeout games, including a season best 17 twice in wins over Northeast Texas and Trinity Valley. Aholehei held the opposition to a .146 batting average, which was fourth lowest amongst NJCAA DI pitchers.

"This addition will be huge for our pitching staff and the softball program," said head coach Kathleen Rodriguez. "Primrose had a stellar career at BPCC. Her consistency, athleticism and dominance at the national level was impressive to say the least."

The Lady Cavs finished the 2022 season with a 42-12 record, recording its second consecutive 40-win season while also winning the Region XIV East Conference. Aholehei will look to bring these successes to the Island along with her catcher and twin sister, Precious Aholehei.

"Primrose and her sister Precious make a great battery combination that will be extremely fun to watch," Rodriguez said. "We look forward to what is to come for them in their time as Islanders."
