PHILADELHPIA, Penn. - Sophomore
Lucie Charbonnier won the individual award to help the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi golf program repeat as champions at the 2022 PGA Works Collegiate Championship at Union League Golf Club at Torresdale to finish out the 2022 season.
Out of 50 players, Charbonnier placed first with a 225 total on the tournament. She finished one stroke ahead of second-place Anna Ferreyra-Heit on conference opponent Delaware State. This marked Charbonnier's first career win and the first time in program history that an individual won at the same tournament the team won.
This was also the first outright win for head coach
Pat Stephens, who was promoted to head coach back in January.
Right behind Charbonnier was freshman
Reagan Gray who shot the team's lowest score of round three at a 72 for a 228 total on the tournament. She finished in fifth place.
Also in the top-10 were junior
Lucy Martinez and senior
Kelli Ann Dugan. Martinez turned in a
80-72-82 - 234 for a seventh place finish while Dugan etched a
73-82-83 - 238 good enough for a ninth place ranking.
Rounding out the Islanders was graduate student
Kellsey Sample, who finished 13th after totaling a 240 score on the tournament. This was Sample and Dugan's last collegiate event.
This was the seventh top-five finish for the Islanders on the season. This was the fourth top-three finish this spring for the Islanders which included third place at the Islander Classic where the team recorded the program's lowest 54-hole total (886), a tie for first at the UTRGV Invitational and runner-up at the Stetson Babs Steffens Invitational.
The PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship is in its 35th year and features more than 30 teams representing Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic-serving institutions and other minority-serving institutions from across the nation.
