A&M-Corpus Christi Student-Athletes Complete 2021-22 Conni and Jay Wise L.E.A.D. Program

May 25, 2022

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – In its second year, 17 student-athletes from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi participated in and completed the Conni & Jay Wise L.E.A.D. Program.

The mission of the Conni & Jay Wise Islanders L.E.A.D. Program, which stands for Learn, Engage, Apply, Do, is to equip student-athletes with the skills to be effective leaders among their peers, facilitate personal and team success, and help one another accomplish their goals during their time on The Island and in life after graduation.

The program consisted of six meetings - an introduction to the program and five workshops each focusing on a different value of leadership: Model the Way, Inspire and Shared Vision, Challenge the Process, Enable Others to Act and Encourage Others Around You.

"Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is committed to preparing student-athletes for leadership roles in life after their athletics careers. I am excited for this year's Islanders L.E.A.D. cohort. They have gone the extra mile to complete this program and develop skills that will benefit them individually for a lifetime and will also add value to their teams during their time here on the Island Campus. We are grateful to Conni and Jay Wise for their investment in this important program," said Director of Athletics Jon Palumbo.

Each meeting targeted a different L.E.A.D. module and included various activities and discussion around each practice of leadership. The workshops were designed to get each student critically thinking about their own leadership styles, how they could apply them, what styles they might work best with and how they could expand upon their own leadership styles.

"I would like to thank all of our student-athletes who participated in the Conni and Jay Wise L.E.A.D. program this year. Each student-athlete will be able to take away valuable lessons and skills they can use not only within their teams, but in the community as well. I sincerely believe the L.E.A.D. program will continue to provide a great platform to allow our student-athletes to develop into the best versions of themselves. I also want to give a special thanks to Conni and Jay Wise for their help in making this program happen and being a great resource to our student-athletes," said Dr. Jim Glovach, Scholastic Coordinator.
