CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – For the third consecutive year, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi defeated UTRGV in the South Texas Showdown, presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union.

The Islanders outscored the Vaqueros 50-14 this year and the 50 points were the most-ever recorded by either institution in the history of the series. A&M-Corpus Christi now leads UTRGV 5-1 in the yearly all-time series.

The Islanders won 16 of the 20 athletic competitions over the Vaqueros and at least one in every sport.

A&M-Corpus Christi won both men's and women's cross country and men's and women's track, and posted 2-0 season sweeps in men's basketball, men's tennis, women's tennis and golf. The Islanders also won attendance points in volleyball and women's basketball.

The South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union, is an annual rivalry series in which Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and UTRGV compete against each other in 12 sports, including twice each in baseball, volleyball, women's soccer and golf, and men's and women's basketball and tennis, and once each in men's and women's cross country and outdoor track & field.

Each athletic competition counted as three points and a single attendance point was awarded in volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball and baseball.
