Islanders Win Seven More Events at UIW to Complete Big Weekend

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi track and field teams concluded the UIW Invitational with seven victories on the second day of competition.

The men's hurdlers dominated today with first through fourth-place finishes," said head coach Brent Ericksen." [Senior] Ke'Tavion Humber's time of 13.95s broke the school record and places him 15th in the NCAA West region."

Humber led the pack in the 110m hurdles with senior Trpimir Siroki finishing in second right behind him, clocking a 14.20s time. Senior Daniel Armstrong kept the train going, coming in third with a 14.23s mark before Timor Barrett, a graduate student, came in fourth at 14.30s. All four ran in the same heat within legal wind speeds. Senior Devon Polk earned third for the women, running the race in 14.68s.

Three Islanders kicked off the high jump by placing in the top five. Senior Erika Snyder claimed the gold medal with a mark of 1.74m, 0.09m higher than second. The leap places her 33rd in the nation and beats her personal record. Freshman Jamal Dawson tied for first with a leap of 1.95m before losing the tiebreaker while junior Spencer Bigner earned a third-place finish, tied with two others, by clearing 1.90m.

Styles later went on to win the women's 100m dash, crossing the line in 12.17s.

Freshman Tranasia Jones refused to let the momentum die, earning another gold medal on the day in the women's 400m dash. Her time of 56,25s was just short of beating second place by a whole second.

Shortly after, senior Faith Bett finished runner-up in the women's 800m run with a time of 2:14.28. Senior Riley Cowan (2:20.63) and junior Jasmine Perez (2:22.12) finished fifth and sixth in the event.
