Islanders Fall to Ranked Opponents Friday at Unconquered Invitational at FSU

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Going up against stiff competition, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball program dropped 5-0 decisions to No. 4 Florida State and No. 19 Stetson on Friday in the Unconquered Invitational at FSU.
 
The Islanders are now 18-10 overall on the season. Seven of their 10 losses have been to ranked teams.
 
The defeat to Stetson was much closer than the final score. A&M-Corpus Christi won the first set on courts one and four, and courts two and three went deep into frames.
 
On court one, two-time reigning SLC Pair of the Week winners Giuliana Poletti Corrales and Brooke Pertuit won the first set 22-20. After the Hatters came back to win the second 21-8, a nail-biting third set came down to the very end where Stetson was able to pull it out 19-17.
 
The team of junior Shea Slusser and freshman Kela Moreno were close to winning a straight-set match on court four. They won the first 21-16 and were very deep into the second, but after the Hatters were able to snatch it 27-25 they went on to win the third 15-9.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi will close out the tournament Saturday against two more ranked opponents when it squares off with No. 15 FIU at 7 a.m. (CT) and No. 2 TCU at 10 a.m. (CT).
