CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The series between the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team and Southeastern will come down to a rubber match after the teams split the doubleheader on Friday at Chapman Field.
The Islanders (20-24, 8-6) took down the Lady Lions (34-13, 11-3) in a 7-0 shutout in game one of the day. Game two went Southeastern's way with a 6-2 decision.
Two-time and back-to-back reigning SLC Pitcher of the Week senior
Grace Gilbert earned the complete-game shutout win, her third of the season. Through seven innings, she blanked the Lady Lions and only gave up three hits. Gilbert has not allowed a run in her last five appearances.

A big sixth inning for the Islanders is was helped them take charge in game one, scoring six of their seven runs. The biggest turn happened after the Islanders got bases loaded after junior
Pal Egan was intentionally walked to bring Montilla to the plate. She hit a bases-clearing double to left center, getting the three-RBI and giving the Islanders the 4-0 lead.

Ashleigh Sgambelluri reach base on an error by the Southeastern shortstop, scoring both Montilla and Hoyt to go up 6-0 in the sixth. A single by junior
Haley Morse drove in Sgambelluri for the 7-0 eventual win.
Game two had the Islanders striking first for a 2-0 lead after the second inning. Morse and sophomore
Gabriella Torres got on base with De Avila following them up with a single to load the bases. Sophomore
Alexandria Torres got the single RBI after her hit drove in her sister. Egan was walked at the next at-bat, walking in De Avila for A&M-Corpus Christi's second run of the game.
The rest of the game had Southeastern in control after the team took its first lead of the day in the fourth 3-2. Three more runs in the top of the sixth for the Lady Lions helped secure their 6-2 win.
On the day, Montilla got three hits, three RBIs, a double and a run. Egan went into the day ranked 13th nationally for doubles and hit a double during her first at-bat of the day. She recorded a run and an RBI between the two games, and has now extended her streak of reaching base to 21 games.
The win against Southeastern gave the Islanders their 20th win of the season, the most season wins since 2015. Another win this weekend would make this the program's most winningest season since 2011.
The rubber match is set for Saturday at 12 p.m. The game will be streamed on the Islanders Digital Network.
