Islanders Close Out Regular Season at Rice Twilight Invitational

HOUSTON, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi team found a multitude of successes at the Rice Twilight Invitational by placing in the top 10 on Saturday.
 
Senior Erika Snyder highlighted the team by coming away with a victory in the women's high jump, leaping 1.72m to clear the bar. A previous mark of 1.74m has her sitting third in the conference.
 
Tranasia Jones, a freshman, also claimed victory, this time in the women's 400m dash with a time of 56.38s. Behind her was sophomore teammate Yasmine Steele in 10th place with a time of 57.78s.
 
Junior Riley Cowan took home second in the women's 800m dash in the afternoon section, earning a new personal best of 2:18.87. Senior Faith Bett placed eighth in the evening section of the event with a time of 2:14.71.

Running the 400m dash after was freshman Mikyla Jamison. Jamison also set a personal best time in her event, clocking a time of 58.70s good enough for a sixth-place finish in the afternoon section.
 
On the other half of the 400m dash, sophomore John Moreno and freshman DeMari Walker placed second and seventh, respectively, with personal bests of 48.43s and 49.87s.
 
Kiara Pickens, a senior, kicked off field events for the team with a fifth-place finish in the long jump, setting a season-best 5.75m mark. She later earned ninth in the triple jump, marking 11.54m from the board. Senior Preston Whaley placed sixth in the men's triple jump with a mark of 14.28m.
 
The 200m dash found success on both sides of the event with freshmen Journi Williams (25.48s) and Bailey Cook (25.71) placing fifth and eighth in the event, respectively. Sophomore Deon McIver earned ninth-place, setting a 22.22s time.

The women's 4x100m team consisting of sophomore Capri Wilson, Steele, Williams and freshman La Myia Styles placed third with a time of 46.71s. The mark earned them ninth all-time in Islanders' history. The 4x400 team of Cowan, senior Devon Polk, Jones and Steele placed third with a 3:54.84 mark. The men's side of the 4x400m relay was runner-up, clocking a time of 3:13.32. The team was composed of Moreno, senior Keenan Lawrence, senior Ke'Tavion Humber and graduate student Timor Barrett.

Graduate student Quin Johnson rounded out the day in the women's 5K in fifth-place, crossing the finish line in 18:09.59. Campos came in ninth with an 18:39.26 time.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi will take a week off to regroup and rest before traveling to Humble, Texas for the Southland Conference Championships.
