HOUSTON – The top-seeded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball program blanked fourth-seeded Southeastern 4-0 on Friday at the Southland Conference Championship at Third Coast Volleyball Club, hosted by HBU.

The Islanders (19-12) had to await the winner of Southeastern (12-20) and Nicholls (1-24) in the first match of the day before taking the court. Despite the Lady Lions coming off the win, A&M-Corpus Christi took control early and never relinquished it.
"This is a good start and we're all very happy with our performance in the first round. Our focus moving forward is to play in the moment and one round at a time," said head coach
Gayle Stammer.

A&M-Corpus Christi led 1-0 after a win on court two. Sophomore
Tori Johnson and
Jade Bennett notched a 21-11, 21-18 decision. The Islanders won another on court one as the 12th-ranked duo in the nation
Giuliana Poletti Corrales and
Brooke Pertuit registered a 22-20, 21-11 decision.

A pair of matches finished simultaneously to clinch. On court three, graduate
Kiley Lewis and senior
Migle Mazurkeviciute tallied a 21-18, 22-20 win. On court five, graduate
Micaela Mirabal and freshman
Elizabeth Cortez posted a 21-16, 22-20 victory.

The Islanders improved to 9-0 against SLC opponents this season. A&M-Corpus Christi is now 4-0 all-time against SLU.

The Islanders advanced to the semifinals and will square off with third-seeded New Orleans at 12 p.m. Saturday. The winner of the SLC Championship will receive an automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA Tournament in Gulf Shores, Alabama on May 6-8.
