Islanders Ready for 2022 Beach Volleyball Tournament

HOUSTON – Entering the tournament as the number one seed, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball program will compete in the 2022 Southland Conference Championship this weekend at Third Coast Volleyball Club, hosted by HBU.
 
The Islanders (18-12) will play Friday at 1 p.m. against the winner of fourth-seeded Southeastern (11-19) and fifth-seeded Nicholls (1-23). The Lady Lions and Colonels square off against each other at 11 a.m. Friday.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi earned the top seed after finishing the season as the highest ranked team from the conference in the Pablo Beach Volleyball Rankings. A&M-Corpus Christi was ranked No. 32 nationally.
 
The Islanders went 8-0 this season against SLC opponents. It included three wins over HBU (11-20), three over New Orleans (18-13) and one over both SLU and Nicholls.
 
The No. 1 pair of Giuliana Poletti Corrales and Brooke Pertuit ranked No. 12 in the country. They tallied a 22-8 record and were four-time SLC Pair of the Week winners.
 
Expected to play No. 2 is sophomore Tori Johnson and freshman Jade Bennett. The duo was second on the squad in wins with 15.
 
The winner of the SLC Championship will receive an automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA Tournament in Gulf Shores, Alabama on May 6-8.
