Islanders Remain in Third Heading to Final Day of SLC Championship

CONROE, Texas - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi golf team remains steady at third place after the second of three rounds at the SLC Championships on Tuesday at Panorama Golf Club.

The Islanders turned in a 318 in round two, compared to their 311 in round one, to total a 629 through the second day. They are 26 strokes behind first-place Augusta.

Sophomore Lucie Charbonnier remains in the lead for the Islanders, etching a 75-80-155 so far in the tournament and remaining in the top-10. However, graduate student Kellsey Sample turned in the team's best round of the day with a 76, four strokes better than her previous round. Sample eagled on hole one to start her day, the only player of the tournament to do so, to now total a 156.

Freshman Anastacia Johnson shot an 82 in round two to submit a 159 total in the tournament, good enough for a 13th individual placing.

Playing consistently, junior Lucy Martinez turned in another pair of birdies to match her round one score of 80 to total a 160 through the two rounds. Freshman Reagan Gray rounded it out for the Islanders etching a 79-84-163.

Heading into the final day of the conference tournament, the Islanders are slated to begin round three at 8:45 a.m along with UIW and Augusta. The leading group featuring Augusta's Chloe Holder, UIW's Ellen Nicholas and Charbonnier will tee off at 9:21 a.m.

The Southland Champion will earn the conference's automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA Regionals. Additionally, the individual champion, if not a part of the championship team, will be granted an automatic selection into the NCAA Regional Tournament. Qualifiers from the NCAA Regional Tournaments will earn a spot in the NCAA Women's Golf Championship, which will be hosted at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, May 20-25.
