HOUSTON, Texas - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team will look for its second conference series win this season when they travel to Husky Field to take on HBU in a three-game series this weekend.
Friday will feature a doubleheader between the two teams beginning at 2 p.m. The series will conclude following a 12 p.m. matchup on Saturday. All three games will be available to stream on ESPN+.
The Islanders (14-22, 2-4) are coming off a hard-fought series win against Northwestern State last weekend. Throughout the series, seven different Islanders recorded at least one hit with junior
Pal Egan getting at least two hits in each game. She now records 14 multi-hit games this season.
In game one against the demons, freshman
Siarah Galvan pitched for a team-high of 11 innings during the 12-inning pitcher's duel. Reentry rules prevented her from throwing a complete game, but she struck out seven batters and only gave up one run during the 11 innings of work. Galvan now leads the team with a 3.36 ERA.
Junior
Quinn De Avila recorded her first multi-hit game of the season in game three against the Demons. She went 2-3 at the plate and scored one of the five runs the Islanders used in the rubber match to win the series.
Egan and sophomore
Kimane Rogron are the only two players to have started in every game this season. Egan leads the team with a .419 batting average and is in the direction of breaking multiple program single-season records, including her batting average, slugging percentage and on-base percentage. Rogron is one of two players to have hit a single, a double, a triple and a home run this season.
Just like Rogron, sophomore
Haley Morse has also accomplished the season-cycle. Morse also leads the conference defensively with a 1.000 fielding percentage off 113 chances for 95 putouts and 18 assists.
A&M-Corpus Christi now sits fifth in the conference standings. In conference play, the Islanders lead their opponents 1-0 in home runs and 11-5 in stolen bases.
HBU (12-20, 2-6) also earned its first conference series win last week against UIW. Two of the team's batters went 3-for-4 while pitcher Lyndie Swanson threw a complete game to win the rubber match over the Cardinals. The Huskies are currently seventh in the conference rankings.
HBU's Shelby Echols leads the conference in batting average at .485 while Egan is third in the conference with a .419 for the Islanders.
The Islanders lead the Huskies 23-16 in the all-time record and 9-6 when the matchups have been in Houston.
