CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi track & field team concluded the 94th Annual Texas Relays on Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Senior
Faith Bett was the lone Islander to compete on Saturday, running the women's mile and coming in second with a time of 5:12.69. Due to harsh weather conditions, most other competitors dropped out, but Bett powered through the race, coming across the finish line.
Head coach
Brent Ericksen was pleased with the weekend, saying, "The highlight of the meet was definitely the first two days with [senior]
Trpimir Siroki scoring that amount of points in the decathlon. That's a total that has always gone nationals and he's getting close to qualifying for the world championships and it's impressive, but you can see there's still more in the tank."
Siroki earned a total 7,838 points, earning a third-place performance at the meet. The performance bumps him up to first all-time in school history, nearly breaking the previous record by 2,000 points.
Ericksen was pleased with other events as well, mentioning how graduate student
Tristan Stellmach, freshman
Kelvin Kimaiyo and junior Dennis Kipgeno all earned personal records in their respective distance events.
"Four days is a lot and overall it was a great weekend," said Ericksen. "We're looking forward to coming home and getting back to training tomorrow."
The team will rest at home for the week before leaving to compete at the UTSA Invitational this Friday and Saturday.
