Softball Falls to Texas State on Wednesday

SAN MARCOS, Texas - In a single mid-week game, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team fell to Texas State 6-2 on Wednesday at the Bobcat Softball Stadium.

The Islanders (9-11) went toe-to-toe with Texas State (7-5) through the first four innings of the game. Junior Pal Egan quickly got a hit on her first at-bat against the Bobcats and sophomore Kimane Rogron was able to pull Egan in for the first run of the game. Texas State responded with a single run of their own in the bottom of the second to tie the game 1-1.

In the third, Egan homered to left field to give the Islanders their second and last run of the day. This was Egan's third homerun of the season, a team-high. She leads the team across the board to average a .397 batting and .724 slugging percentage. Her two runs of the day brought her season total to 20.

The game got away from the Islanders in the fifth when Texas State added three runs to the board to take the score to 6-2, which became the final score after 1.5 more innings with the Bobcats securing the win in the end.

Rogron recorded a hit and an RBI in the game. She is on an 11-game streak of getting a hit and reaching base, the longest on the team.

Sophomore Haley Morse showed discipline at the plate as she was walked twice. This was Morse's ninth game in a row where she has reached base safely.

Senior Grace Gilbert had her sixth start of the season at the mound and pitched for 4.2 innings. She has pitched for the most innings on the team at 37.2 and has also struck out the most batters at 24, one coming from the game against the Bobcats.

A&M-Corpus Christi will have another in-state competition as they will travel to take on Baylor (10-5) in a doubleheader on Saturday. The first game will begin at noon (CT) with the second game to be played immediately after. This will be the first matchup between these two teams since 2015.
