SUGAR LAND, Texas - After three rounds, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's golf program ended in a tie for eighth place out of 14 schools at the HBU Husky Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at the Riverbend Country Club.
The Islanders carded a 316-320-311 - 947 overall score. They moved up two spots on the leaderboard after the final round.
"It was not the best showing of Islander golf," said head coach
Pat Stephens. "Riverbend Country Club was in wonderful shape but we played it under very windy conditions. Overall the scoring was high and we did move up a couple spots during the third round but it was not enough to gain on the leaders."
Sophomore
Lucie Charbonnier posted a team-best score of 225 after being the only player to score in the 70s each round. Her lowest round came in the third with a 72, one stroke higher than her all-time lowest round. Charbonnier placed fifth individually out of 75 players, marking her fourth tournament in a row to finish in 11th place or higher.
"I am very proud of Lucie's performance this week," Stephens said. "She put herself in contention early in the final round and had a lot of opportunities for birdies with great iron play. A tie for 5th and only 2 shots back of leaders. She has been very consistent for us this spring."
Freshman
Anastacia Johnson finished tied for 38th after submitting a 82-78-79 - 239 on the tournament. Fellow freshman
Reagan Gray finished just two strokes behind Johnson with a 241 through the three rounds.
Senior
Kelli Ann Dugan and sophomore
Reese Drezins recorded their lowest scores in the first round at 77 and 83, respectively. Dugan turned in a 245 while Drezins etched a 254.
The Islanders will finish up their March campaign at the Stetson Babs Steffens Invitational on March 27-28 in Daytona Beach, Florida.
"We are looking forward to some solid practice for the remainder of spring break and preparing for Stetson's tournament," said Stephens.
