Islanders Game Notes | Live Stats | SECNetwork+ (vs Texas A&M)

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball program is heading to Davis Diamond to compete in the Texas A&M Aggie Classic Friday through Sunday to begin its 2022 campaign.

A&M-Corpus Christi's (0-0) first pitch of the season will come from a 12:30 p.m. start time against WKU (0-0) and be immediately followed up with a 3 p.m. game versus Texas A&M (0-0) on Friday. On Saturday, the Islanders are set to play UT Arlington (0-0) at 10 a.m. and then rematch against WKU that night at 5:30 p.m. The Islanders finish out tournament play on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. against the Aggies.

Both games against Texas A&M can be watched on the SEC Network+.

The tournament will mark the start of head coach Kathleen Rodriguez's career as an Islander. She arrived on the Island after five years as head coach at Trinity Valley Community College, which culminated in a Region XIV East tournament championship and NJCAA national tournament appearance in 2021.

Juniors Ashleigh Sgambelluri and Pal Egan were named to the SLC Preseason All-Conference First-Team. Sgambelluri had the second highest average on the team with a .317 during the 2021 season as the only student-athlete to start in all 48 games on the year. Egan led the team in on-base percentage with a .441 mark and hit for a .299 average. This came after Egan earned an All-Conference Third-Team honor at the start of the 2021 season.

Sophomores Haley Morse and Alexandria Torres earned a spot on the SLC Preseason All-Conference Second-Team. In the circle, junior Beatriz Lara also earned a Second-Team honor.

The Islanders revamped their roster with the addition of nine newcomers this season. Seven freshmen will see their first collegiate season at A&M-Corpus Christi and two upperclassmen have transferred in to continue their athletic careers.

A&M-Corpus Christi was picked to finish sixth in the SLC Preseason Poll after a 18-30 (8-16 SLC) record in the 2021 season.

The Islanders are going for their first win over the Aggies since 2010 and the second in school history; they've met 16 times. It will be the first-ever meetings between A&M-Corpus Christi and Western Kentucky. The record between the Islanders and UT Arlington is tied 15-15.
