SAN MARCOS, Texas - Coming off another weekend tournament, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball program will next take on Texas State in a single 5 p.m. matchup on Wednesday at the Bobcat Softball Stadium.
The Islanders (9-10) finished their third tournament appearance of the season at the 2022 Houston Tournament. They earned two wins on the weekend, one being a 8-7 comeback victory over host Houston. The second win was a high-scoring 10-9 game with the Islanders outlasting Northern Colorado.
During the tournament, junior
Pal Egan hit her second homerun of the season to lead the team in that category. She also leads the team with 18 runs, 21 hits and 13 RBIs. Sophomore
Kimane Rogron hit her first homerun over the weekend and is on a 10-game streak of getting a hit and reaching base.
Sophomore
Sydney Hoyt continues to lead the team in batting average with a .385. She recorded five runs and two RBIs on the tournament.Â
At the mound, senior
Grace Gilbert got a win and a save in the wins over Houston and Northern Colorado. She pitched for a combined 15 innings and struck out seven batters. FreshmanÂ
Denay Smith saw her first collegiate start over the weekend and pitched five scoreless innings. She struck out her game-high of five batters against the Cougars.
Sophomore
Gabriella Torres has remained consistent at the plate with a .463 slugging percentage. She has started in every game and totals the second highest number of hits on the team with 16.
A&M-Corpus Christi has used 17 different lineups this season under first-year head coach
Kathleen Rodriguez. The Islanders are on a trend of finishing strong as they have outscored the opposition 21-14 in the final inning played.
Texas State (6-5) has faced four ranked opponents so far this year. The team is recently coming off of a 2-5 loss to No. 23 Texas.Â
This will be the 48th time these two teams face each other. The Islanders will look to snap a seven-game losing streak to the Bobcats.
