"I am looking forward to seeing everyone playing under tournament conditions," said head coach
Pat Stephens. "The team is very excited about the Islander Classic coming up on Monday and Tuesday. We are coming off of a good showing at Texas State, and we want to continue that good play."
The Islanders tied for a fourth place finish out of 12 Division I programs at the Texas State Invitational. The team submitted a 307-296-297 – 900, 18 strokes behind first place.
FreshmanÂ
Anastacia Johnson led the Islanders the whole way and carded low 70s each round, the lowest of the team coming from her 71 during round two. She totaled a 218 and placed sixth out of 65 players.
SophomoreÂ
Lucie Charbonnier was only four strokes behind Johnson and submitted a 222 to place herself at a tied seventh place individual ranking. Both Charbonnier and Johnson will be part of the five member team for A&M-Corpus Christi.
Competing as an individual, freshman
Reagan Gray is averaging a 75.42 through four tournaments. Senior
Kelli Ann Dugan is also going in the tournament as an individual and is averaging a 79.00 on the season.
The Islander Classic will be hosted in San Antonio due to the Corpus Christi country club being renovated.
"A little different feeling having our home tournament in San Antonio this year but we were able to go up last Sunday for an extra practice round," said Stephens. "We have a big field of 18 teams from all over the country.
"For us to be successful on this golf course, our team must put the ball in play off the tee," said Stephens. "From there they have a great opportunity to score on Brackenridge Park Golf Course."
