Islanders Prepare for Home Openers Against GB, PVAMU, Stream Available on ESPN+

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - After a weekend on the road, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball program will have its first home games of 2022 on Tuesday and Wednesday with a pair of doubleheaders. The Islanders will host Green Bay on Tuesday starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday's two-game matchup for A&M-Corpus Christi will be against Prairie View A&M also set to start at 1 p.m.

All four games game can be watched live on ESPN+ for the first time ever at Chapman Field.

A&M-Corpus Christi opened the season at the Texas A&M Aggie Classic. The Islanders shutout UTA 2-0 allowing the Islanders to take the lead in the 16-15 overall record between them and the Mavericks.

For the tournament, junior Pal Egan led the team with three runs, four runs and three RBIs. She hit for a .286 average and .412 on-base percentage. Egan also recorded a home run.

Sophomore Gabriella Torres matched Egan's average at a .286 and tallied three runs of her own throughout the tournament. In the circle, junior Beatriz Lara pitched the longest at 11.1 innings and struck out nine batters. Freshman Alyssa Aguilar pitched in her first collegiate game and made two appearances in the tournament as a reliever. She did not allow any runs during her 4.2 innings pitched.

First-year head coach Kathleen Rodriguez saw the start of her career as an Islander over the weekend. She arrived from Trinity Valley Community College where she culminated a Region XIV East tournament championship and NJCAA national tournament appearance in 2021.

Rodriguez has used five different lineups in five games this year.

Green Bay (3-2) competed in the UIW Invitational and went 3-2. They had five different players record home runs for a team total of eight. Prairie View (0-5) also competed in the UIW Invitational over the weekend.

This will be the first ever meetings between A&M-Corpus Christi and Green Bay. The Islanders are 27-11 all-time against Prairie View and 16-7 at home.
