Isaac Mushila from the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball program was tabbed to the 2022-23 Lou Henson National Player of the Year Award Watch List.

The award is presented annually to the top mid-major player in Division I college basketball. It is named after Henson, a former Illinois and New Mexico State head coach who won 775 games in 41 seasons.

Players on teams from the following conferences are eligible for the award: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt and West Coast.

Mushila was the only student-athlete from the SLC on the list.

The Lubumbashi, Congo native was a SLC Preseason All-Conference First-Team honoree. It came after he was tabbed the 2021-22 SLC Newcomer of the Year. He led the Islanders in both scoring (13.2 ppg) and rebounding (9.4 rpg) last year, and finished ninth in the country in offensive rebounds per game (3.57), 13th in total rebounds (330), 21st in double-doubles (13) and 22nd in free throws made (158).

This season, Mushila is averaging a double-double with 13.7 points and 10.5 rebounds, which both leads the team. He's scored over 20 points and grabbed at least 16 rebounds twice.
