CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi cross country will be represented for the second consecutive year at the NCAA Championships as senior
Dennis Kipngeno prepares to run at the Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course Saturday morning at 10:10 a.m.
"We want everyone to do the hard work, do the summer runs and get into the first part of the season and keep building and Dennis loves running," said head coach
Brent Ericksen. "This is going to be a challenge for everybody with a hard course and cold weather conditions."
The meet marks the second season Kipngeno has qualified for nationals while at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, making history as just the third runner to qualify for the race. He earned his ticket by finishing seventh at the South Central Regionals for an at-large bid to represent the Islanders. He competed at nearly all the meets in the 2022 campaign, missing only one race on the season.
"We've been training all the days from summer up to now, I'm going to try to push myself to do the best," said Kipngeno. When speaking about the weather, he said, "I'm trying to be positive and adjusting is just part of the race."
Kipngeno earned SLC Athlete of the Week honors twice en route to earning SLC Athlete of the Year by winning the men's race at the SLC Championships and being named to the SLC All-Conference First Team as well. In three of his four races, he has placed in the top three with the fourth being a top-10 finish.
Kipngeno is the first of two Southland Conference runners at the meet in addition to George Wheeler from Lamar, coming in eighth place at regionals and runner-up at the SLC Championships.
The race will be streamed live on ESPNUÂ at 9:00 a.m. for the women and 10:10 a.m. for the men.
