Women's Basketball Adds Three to 2023-24 Roster

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Head coach Royce Chadwick announced the additions of three signees to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christ women's basketball team for the 2023-24 season.

The signees are Torie Sevier, Claudia Diez, and Andrea Montesinos. Sevier is an in-state product while Diez and Montesinos will both come to Corpus Christi from Spain.

Sevier is a center from Aubrey, Texas. Last year, she was named First-Team All-District after averaging 7.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game to prove agile in transition. Her length and wingspan also offer a shot blocking presence, averaging 1.6 blocks per game. From the field, Sevier was 3.1 out of 6.1 per game for a .500 field goal percentage. Sevier will join the Islanders in fall 2023.

"Torie has a tremendous post presence. She can control the paint on both the offensive and defensive end and is an outstanding leader. We look forward to a great career here for her," said Chadwick.

Diez is a forward from Valencia, Spain. She began playing in the Valencia Basket at a young age prior to having several successful seasons at Picken Claret where she pursued playing minutes and all-around development. As a forward with movements of a guard player, Valencia Basket recruited Diez back with the intention of her helping the team to the next Spanish Championship. Diez will come to the Island in fall 2023.

"Claudia is an extremely versatile player with great length and mobility. She can play inside and out and can score in the paint or from the perimeter. She is an outstanding skill-player, and we anticipate some great things from her," Chadwick said.

Montesinos is a guard from Valencia, Spain. She was an essential member of the U16 Spanish National Championship squad in 2021 after starting in 80 percent of the games. She also proved to be the top shooter in Valencia Region after scoring 40 percent of three-pointers in 2020. Montesinos currently plays in Basquet Paterna as the team will look to rely on her to reach the Spanish National Championship. She will then join A&M-Corpus Christi in fall 2023.

"Andrea is a combo guard with outstanding skills. She was on a championship team and was the best shooter in the region. She can play multiple positions and score from anywhere on the floor," said Chadwick.
