Charbonnier Ties School Record for Best Tournament after Career Day at NMSU Aggie Invitational

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – With a 68 (-4) in the final round, junior Lucie Charbonnier from the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi golf program tied the school record for low 54-hole total with a 213 (-3) overall after three days at the NMSU Aggie Invitational at the NMSU Golf Course.
 
The 213 (-3) matched a performance by Ashlie Simmons in 2003-04. Charbonnier's previous career best was a 218 set last year at the Islander Classic.
 
Furthermore, Charbonnier's 68 was the second-lowest round in school history, only behind Vanessa Johnson's 67 at FIU in 2013-14. Charbonnier placed fourth overall in a field of 82 after moving up eight spots on the final day.
 
As a team, the Islanders turned in their best round in round three for the third consecutive tournament. After posting a 308 on day one and 299 on day two, A&M-Corpus Christi ended with a 295 on day three for a 902 total to place 11th.
 
"The team played some very good golf today. Lucie had another outstanding tournament to tie the low-54 score in school history. I'm proud of her play today and she's showing what kind of player she really is," said head coach Pat Stephens. "Reagan [Gray] had a fine tournament. If we start getting our fourth and fifth scores lower, there could be some wins in the future four the Islanders golf team."
 
Sophomore Reagan Gray was the team's second finisher with a 226. Senior Lucy Martinez tallied a 233 and freshman Lucia Ramirez etched a 234, including her best score of 72 in the final round. Junior Reese Drezins closed it out with a 248.
 
The Islanders will have a quick turnaround as they'll be back in action Monday when they compete in the Arkansas State Tournament in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
