THIBODAUX, La. - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi cross country saw three runners place in the top five and earn First Team All-Conference honors at the SLC Championships hosted by Nicholls Friday morning.
"Dennis, Enock and Faith are all great and it was a great day," said head coach
Brent Ericksen. "We had a lot of runners run personal bests that weren't a part of that."
Junior
Dennis Kipngeno won the men's race with a time of 23:49.15 to earn First-Team All-Conference status and was followed shortly after by classmate
Enock Kimutai in third place, crossing the finish line with a mark of 23:56.87, also making the SLC First Team. Both juniors led the charge as the team finished fifth out of the ten total. Kipngeno earned the SLC Male Athlete of the Year award and Kimutai earned the Male Newcomer of the Year.
Graduate student
Juan Salinas III finished third for the Islanders in 30th, running a time of 25:31.95 as
Gregorio Alcorta, a sophomore, finished 43rd. Senior
Hunter Haas was the last member of the team to be scored in 44th.
Rogerio Gomez,
Logan Rickey and Reece Lara placed 51st, 52nd at 74th respectively.
Faith Bett, a grad student, finished fifth to be the third runner to earn First Team All-Conference recognition for A&M-Corpus Christi, marking a 21:07.59 finish. Just shy of the top 10 was senior
Sharon Kiprop in 11th with a time of 21:26.10.
Senior
Riley Cowan earned 35th in her final conference meet with a 23:11.08 time.
Ayanna Palomo, a redshirt freshman, scored fourth for the team in 39th as freshman
Franziska Dempwolf earned 43rd to round out the scorers. Senior
Cambria Clark earned 48th and Trsitan Nemac, a junior, placed 55th to close out the team. The women tied for sixth place.
A&M-Corpus Christi next competes at the South Central Regionals in College Station, Texas on November 11.
