CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's soccer is traveling to Houston Friday to take on HCU for the regular season finale Friday night at Sorrels Field at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are competing for higher seeding in the Southland Conference Tournament that starts November 4.
"I'm excited for the way the ladies are playing and the fight they have," said head coach
Craig Shaw. "The fight and depth we have and comraderie we have with our team makes it a pleasure to be here."
The Islanders have earned eight wins on the season and are looking to tie their highest win total in program history with nine. A&M-Corpus Christi defeated HCU earlier this season 2-1 at home as the team earned their first outright victory over the Huskies. Both teams are currently tied at fifth in the standings ahead of McNeese with both having a chance to tie for third with a victory and a loss by Texas A&M-Commerce.
This past weekend, junior
Rebekah George gained momentum as she earned her first two goals with the Islanders, earning one each against Northwestern State and Lamar, the top two seeds in the conference. She became the 10th unique scorer on the team to bring A&M-Corpus Christi to the status of having a double-double in goals and assists in unique scorers in the two categories.
Sophomores
Morgan Westbury and
Megan Guy lead the team in scoring, having 17 and 15 each, respectively. Both lead the team in goals with seven as junior
Maggie Murray sits next at five on the 2022 campaign. Guy leads the conference in game-winning goals with three on the season.
The team is second in the conference and 32nd in the nation in scoring offense, averaging 2.19 goals per match to sit behind only Lamar in the Southland Conference. The Islanders are 43rd in all of Division I women's soccer in total goals with 35, shattering the old program record of 24.
The match will be streamed on ESPN+ for subscribers with live stats to follow along.
