Charbonnier Earns Runner-Up Honors at Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Finishing in second-place, junior Lucie Charbonnier from the golf program headlined Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's performance Monday and Tuesday at the Wofford College Terrier Intercollegiate at the Carolina Country Club.
 
Charbonnier carded a 218 and was one stroke out of first-place behind USC Upstate's Praew Nontarux. Charbonnier turned in a 75 in round one, 69 in round two and 74 in round three.
 
As a team, the Islanders ended in a tie for seventh with a 924.
 
"Another outstanding tournament for Lucie. She was in a great position to win but just fell short. She has had a few tournaments in a row where she has had a great chance to win," said head coach Pat Stephens.
 
A top-10 showing came from senior Maria Beltran. She registered a 74 in round one and a 76 in rounds two and three for a 226 total.
 
"Maria had a solid tournament, a top-10. She continues to show great improvement," Stephens said.
 
Freshman Lucia Ramirez came in 33rd with a 234. She started with an 80 before recording a pair of 77's in the final two rounds.
 
Rounding it out for A&M-Corpus Christi was junior Reese Drezins and freshman Elsa Tornvall. Drezins recorded a 246 and Tornvall a 250.
 
"I'm disappointed with our team's finish. This was a tournament, if we played to our potential, we could have won. We need to get better help from our four and five spots This is something we will be working on in the offseason and into the spring. I'm looking forward to ending the fall season with a positive note in the match play event against UTRGV," Stephens said.
 
The Islanders will close out the fall at home on Saturday when they host UTRGV in match play at 1 p.m. at Lozano Golf Club.
