CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -
Dennis Kipngeno was named the Southland Conference Athlete of the Week Tuesday afternoon, marking the second time this season the senior has earned the honor for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
"Dennis ran an incredible race this past weekend," said head coach
Brent Ericksen. "A time of 23:29 is really moving and this will be the same course for the NCAA Region Championship meet coming up in a few weeks."
Kipngeno placed third at the Arturo Barrios Invitational with a time of 23:26.9, finishing only four seconds behind the race winner from Tulane and three seconds behind second from Texas A&M. The performance saw him elevated over fellow Southland opponents with seven of the ten conference teams competing at the meet.
He earned the honor in the first week the Islanders competed along with grad student
Faith Bett at the Rice Twilight Meet. Kipngeno earned a second-place finish there in the four-mile run, just two seconds behind the race winner.
A&M-Corpus Christi's cross country programs are taking a week of rest before traveling to the SLC Conference Meet on Friday, October 28.
