Strong Second Round Highlights Day One of Arkansas State Tournament

JONESBORO, Ark. – With a season-best round of 290 in the second 18 holes, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi golf program shot a 590 total to sit in 11th out of 16 teams after day one of the Arkansas State Tournament at Sage Meadows Country Club.
 
The Islanders started it off with a 300 in round one before tallying their best round of the year. The 290 also tied the second lowest scoring round in school history.
 
Junior Lucie Charbonnier and freshman Lucia Ramirez paved the way. Charbonnier, who is coming off a historic 54-hole total of 213 (-3) which tied a school record, kept rolling with a 71 in round one and 70 in round two for a 141. Just one stroke behind was Ramirez who shot even par at 72 in round one and was two under with a 70 in round two for a 142.
 
"The team is getting closer to shooting the low scores they are capable of. Lucie continues her hot play and Lucia had two solid rounds today," said head coach Pat Stephens. "The golf course is yielding a lot of low scores but I feel we have a chance to move up a couple of spots and threaten some school scoring records."
 
Charbonnier needs a 71 or better in the final round to break the school record.
 
Senior Maria Beltran registered a 153, sophomore Reagan Gray a 155 and freshman Elsa Tornvall a 157. Gray improved seven strokes from round one to round two.
 
The Islanders will look to continue their streak of posting their best score in the final round of every tournament they've played in this season. The final round tees off at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
