Final Results

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas
- Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's track & field team won two gold medals and had a school record broken at the Texas A&M Invite on Friday in the Gilliam Indoor Stadium.

A&M Corpus Christi's men's 4x400m team won the Ted Nelson Invitational, having run a time of 3:13.12. The team was comprised of Freshman DeMari Walker, Senior Ke'Tavion Humber, Graduate Student Timor Barrett and Junior Leonardo Ledgister who all combined for the third-best time in school history.

"Winning the 4x400 relay is always a great way to finish a meet," said head coach Brent Ericksen. "We had several other standouts as well. [Senior] Preston Whaley broke our school record in the long jump. [Senior] Trpimir Siroki won the pole vault. We put three men in the finals of the 60m hurdles."

Siroki had a career day with a victory in pole vault with a jump of 4.82m, sitting third all-time in school history for the indoor season. Following his gold medal, he claimed third-place in the men's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.06s.

Ahead of Siroki, in the 60m hurdles, was teammate Humber, who ran 8.04s. Barrett rounded out the Islanders in the event with a seventh-place finish (8.32s).

Whaley took home second in the men's long jump, having leaped 7.13m. With this mark, Whaley not only set a personal record, but he also set a new indoor school record for the event. On the women's side, Senior Kiara Pickens jumped 5.58m to place fourth in the event.

Three Islanders took over the men's 3000m race by placing 2-3-4. Graduate Student Tristan Stellmach (8:38.86) led the pack by taking second place followed by Senior Juan Salinas in third (8:59.02) and Freshman Rogerio Gomez in fourth (8.59.08).

Sophomore Capri Wilson ran 7.86s in the women's 60m, earning fourth-place and followed it up with a fifth-place finish in the 200m (25.53s). Fellow teammates, Freshman Mikyla Jamison (25.93s) and Freshman Journi Williams (26.16s), earned 13th and 16th respectively.

Junior Riley Cowan and Freshman Jakob Gunter both took home sixth-place in the women's and men's 800m. Cowan ran a time of 2:23.73 while Gunter ran a 1:59.18.

Junior Jasmine Perez placed eighth in the women's mile, having ran a 5:25.57. Freshmen Jamal Dawson (1.84m) and Noah Gonzalez (1.79m) took home ninth and 10th place in the men's high jump.

Freshman Tranasia Jones ran a time of 59.73s in the women's 400m alongside Sophomore Yasmine Steele (1:00.68) who placed 16th. Walker was A&M-Corpus Christi's only men's runner in the 400m and got 24th with a time of 51.90s.

"Overall, it was a nice start to the season, but we have lots of work to do to get ready for what's coming in the next few weeks," said Ericksen.

The Islanders will next compete Fastrak Collegiate Challenge in Houston, Texas on Jan. 21-22, hosted by the University of Houston.
