HOUSTON, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi cross country made strong debuts Friday evening at the Rice Invitational, as the women placed five runners in the top-15 for a first-place team finish while the men took the runner-up spot behind top-five times from
Dennis Kipngeno and
Kelvin Kimaiyo.
Newcomer
Sharon Kiprop led the way for the women's side, clocking a 14:12.30 for a sixth-place finish.
Jasmine Perez (14:14.60) and
Faith Bett (14:17.10) quickly followed in the eighth and tenth spots, respectively, while
Quin Johnson (14:24.70) and
Valentina Campos (14:32.80) rounded out the top-15 runners.
On the men's side, Kipngeno paced the Islanders with a 18:47.30 time and finished second overall while newcomer Kimaiyo (19:00.80) took fourth for a pair of top-five runs.
Tristan Stellmach slotted just outside the top-10 with an 11th-place run of 19:33.50.
