Islanders Announce 2021-22 Golf Schedule

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi golf program released both its fall and spring schedules for the 2021-22 on Monday, announced by head coach Joni Stephens.
 
"We are very excited about our 2021-22 tournament schedule. Islanders Golf is coming off a strong year, winning two tournaments and finishing top five in 7 of 9 events. We have six players from last year returning (five of whom finished top-5 in at least one tournament in 2020-21), and we are adding two freshmen who are proven competitors and will provide needed depth to our roster," said Stephens.
 
The slate includes four meets in the fall and five regular season meets in the spring before postseason play. The season begins Sept. 13 and the Islanders will travel for fall meets to Missouri State, Sam Houston, New Mexico State and Colorado State.
 
"There will be a few new events this year – Missouri State, Colorado State, and Stetson University – in addition to some of our regularly scheduled tournaments. This year's schedule takes us head-to-head against some Division I teams we don't compete against very often, and will give us a better idea of where we stand competitively as a mid-major DI program," Stephens said.
 
The spring schedule tees off on Feb. 7 when A&M-Corpus Christi competes in the Texas State Invitational. The Islanders will host their annual classic on Feb. 21-22 at Lozano Golf Club.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi will also compete in spring meets at UTRGV, HBU and Stetson. Both the Islander Classic and the UTRGV Invitational will count towards the South Texas Showdown, presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi has also been invited to play in the PGA Works Collegiate Championship, but a date has not yet been set.
 
"In the spring, we will be defending our wins at UTRGV and the PGA Works Collegiate Championship, as well as competing at Texas State, HBU and the Stetson Babs Steffen Invitational at LPGA International in Daytona Beach. Our home tournament will be played at Lozano Golf Course here in Corpus this year with 17 teams participating. Last year we had a runner-up finish; with this year's roster, we are determined to bring in a win. This year's Southland Conference Championship site has changed and will be at Panorama Golf Club in Conroe, Texas. This venue will be a challenging but fair test for our golfers, and our schedule will be great preparation for bringing home a conference championship for A&M-Corpus Christi," Stephens said.
 
The SLC Championship is tabbed for April 18-20. The Islanders will look to advance to NCAA Regionals on May 9-11.
