Soccer Opens Regular Season Sunday at Home against Texas Southern

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The season and home openers will take place Sunday for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's soccer program when it hosts Texas Southern in a 1 p.m. bout at Dugan Stadium.
 
The Islanders (0-0) will look to carry momentum over from Thursday when they completed exhibition play with a 3-0 win over Texas A&M-International.
 
"This is exciting for our young team. We get to test ourselves with the pressures of our first regular season game with homes fans against a team coming off an unlucky overtime loss Thursday," said head coach Craig Shaw.
 
Lone senior Reaghan Lang scored two goals against the Dustdevils and sophomore Molly Arens added the final tally. Junior Samantha Palomino, junior Josie Fountain and freshman Megan Guy all recorded assists.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi outshot the Dustdevils 19-5 and held a 10-3 edge in corner kicks.
 
Texas Southern (0-1) is looking to shake-off a tough 2-1 overtime defeat in its season opener Thursday against UL-Monroe. The Tigers led 1-0 after 67 minutes when the Warhawks found the equalizer. ULM ended it with a goal in the 97^th minute.
 
TSU was picked to finish seventh in the SWAC Preseason Poll. Senior goalkeeper Oriana Palacios was named to the All-SWAC Preseason Second-Team.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi is 3-0 all-time against TSU with the last meeting coming as a 5-0 victory in 2019. They've outscored the Tigers 12-1 over the three match-ups.
 
The Islanders are looking to win their season opener for the first time in program history.
