EUGENE, Oregon – Ending a magical 2021 season, sophomore Leonardo Ledgister finished in sixth-place with a time of 49.28 in the finals of the 400m hurdles on Friday evening at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field on ESPN2.

Ledgister was leading the pack with three hurdles remaining and went on to earn All-America First-Team honors for his performance. He became the first Islander to be named to the All-America First-Team since Hickel Woolery in 2009 in the discus.

The Santa Cruz, Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica native finished ahead of student-athletes from Oregon, Texas and Houston. "What an incredible season for Leo. He really came a long away and through some tough times. I'm very proud of him," said head coach Brent Ericksen. "He still has the Jamaican Olympic trials in two weeks and then hopefully the Olympics after that so we haven't seen the last of him yet this season."

Ledgister topped his mark of 49.82 that he posted Wednesday night in the semifinals. He was less than a half second away from his personal-record time of 48.79 that he tallied at NCAA West Regionals on May 29, which was also a school record.

Ledgister won the Southland Conference in the event on May 16 with a 49.23 score.
