May 27, 2021

FRISCO, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Dennis Kipngeno garnered Southland Men's Outdoor Track & Field Freshman of the Year laurels as the Islanders claimed all-conference honors in eight events, as announced by the league Thursday.

Kipngeno headlined the group as Men's Freshman of the Year and a pair of second-team mentions after collecting silver medal finishes in the 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter long-distance races. In addition, he's amassed three first-place and three runner-up titles in a stellar rookie season. Kipngeno's times ranked among the best in the conference as he recorded the third-best time in the 10,000-meter and fourth overall in the 5,000-meter event.

Leonardo Ledgister is the lone Islander to earn first-team honors after a record-shattering performance in the 400-meter hurdles where he toppled a 31-year championship record with his 49.23 mark.

The Islanders claimed a pair of individual and relay third-team awards, as Capri Wilson and Kennan Lawrence took home bronze in the women's 100-meter dash and men's 800-meter, respectively, while the men's and women's 4x400-meter relay teams swept third place.

The women's 4x400 relay team of T-Anna Dawkins, Larissa Manciaz, Jadyn Wagner and Yasmine Steele broke the school record with a 3:45.10 time.

Ledgister and Lawrence add to their all-conference haul alongside Daniel Armstrong and Ke'Tavion Humber for the men's 4x400 relay team.
