Martinez Earns Academic All-Conference with 4.0 GPA

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – With a cumulative 4.0 grade point average, sophomore Lucy Martinez from the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi golf program was named to the Academic All-Conference Second-Team, the league announced Wednesday.
 
Martinez, an accounting major, posted a 77.48 scoring average on the year and was the team's second finisher at the SLC Championship with a 244 over three rounds, which was good for 17th-place.
 
The Aguascalientes, Mexico native placed top-three in two meets. She earned runner-up honors at the Islander Classic with a 218, including a 72 in round three. Martinez closed out the year with a third-place showing of 234 at PGA Works Collegiate Championship – a tournament that the Islanders won.
 
"I am so proud of Lucy. This honor is much deserved. Lucy's work ethic is second to none; her results in the classroom and on the golf course are reflective of that. Lucy competed in eight of our nine tournaments this year, with this spring being busier and longer than usual. To finish the year with a 4.0 GPA is very impressive," said head coach Joni Stephens.
 
Martinez helped A&M-Corpus Christi accomplish several feats in 2021. The program won its first tournament since 2009 at UTRGV, and won two tournaments for the first time since 2004. Additionally, the fourth-place finish at conference was the best in 10 years.
