SAN MARCOS, Texas – The trio of
Valentina Campos,
Dennis Kipngeno and
Timor Barrett each earned an event title to headline a strong finish to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi track & field's regular season at the Texas State Bobcat Classic Sunday.
The Islanders swept the 1500-meter events, as Campos clocked a 4:42.51 while Kipngeno ran a 3:57.59 as both took home the individual medal.
Timor Barrett rounded out the individual winners, taking the first-place finish in the 400 hurdles with a 51.40 time and marking his second win in the event this spring. In addition, Barrett claimed runner-up in the 100 hurdles with a 14.32 pace.
In the women's 4x400 relay event, the Islanders quartet of
T-Anna Dawkins,
Larissa Manciaz,
Jadyn Wagner and
Yasmine Steele broke the school record with a runner-up time of 3:47.87.
The Islanders recorded numerous top-5 finishes, with the women tallying four fourth-place marks including
Capri Wilson's 11.89 in the 100-meter,
T-Anna Dawkins' 55.70 in the 400-meter,
Devon Polk's 14.22 in the 100 hurdles and
Erika Snyder's personal-best 1.70m in the high jump.
Adding to Barrett's second-place finish, two Islanders clocked runner-up times as
Michael Bailey leapt to a 13.73 in the triple jump and
Keenan Lawrence posted a 1:51.10 time in the 800-meter.
Multiple third-place spots also dotted the final results with
Leonardo Ledgister clocking a 46.92 in the 400 meter while
Juan Salinas III ran a 16:00.55 in the long-distance 5000-meter.
Daniel Armstrong followed behind fellow teammate Barrett in the 110 hurdles with a 14.48 good for another Islander third-place finish.
Up next, the Islanders head to Humble, Texas for the Southland Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships set for May 14-16 at Turner Stadium.
