Season on the Line Friday for Soccer on Senior Night

Islanders Digital Network | Live Stats

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –
It's a "win and you're in" situation for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer program Friday when it hosts Houston Baptist at 7 p.m. on Senior Night at Dugan Stadium.

The Islanders (4-8-3, 3-5-2 SLC) would clinch a berth to the Southland Conference Tournament with a victory over Houston Baptist (3-10-1, 3-7 SLC). A&M-Corpus Christi would be eliminated with a loss. In the case of a tie, the Islanders would need both Central Arkansas and McNeese to lose or tie.

The Islanders will honor nine seniors before the game with a special ceremony. They will distinguish Abby Deakin, Megan Dodd, Larissa Fagundes, Kayla Gove, Kyleigh Hall, Celia Hilsabeck, Siri O'Donnell, Mariah Ramon and Addison Urbanus.

All nine are on pace to graduate this spring with degrees.

"Friday is going to be an emotional time as we celebrate nine seniors, while it's also the HBU head coach's final game before retirement. Throw in that we have a chance to make history as the program has never beaten HBU and never made back-to-back tournament appearances. It will be fun," said head coach Craig Shaw.

Deakin leads the team with 30 shots on the year, including 21 on goal. She has three goals and eight points on the season. Freshman Maggie Murray is the team's leading scorer with four goals and 10 points. Murray is the only student-athlete to start in all 15 games.

Defensively, freshman Emma Herrera has anchored the back line and has logged a team-high 1,154 minutes. Hall has made 12 consecutive starts in net and has registered four shutouts.

HBU is in a similar situation as the A&M-Corpus Christi as it needs a win to stay alive. The Huskies helped their own cause Saturday with a 3-0 win over Nicholls. Noor Abukishk leads the team with three goals and 10 points on the year.

The Islanders are going for their first-ever win against the Huskies. It will be the eighth meeting all-time between the two programs with A&M-Corpus Christi's best result being a 0-0 tie in 2017.
